The calibration of your CRT or LCD monitor Contrast and Brightness settings:
By performing this procedure, the images on this web site — and everywhere else! — will appear as intended!
To ensure these adjustments be effective:
- your monitor should be in operation since a few minutes ("warm"),
- proper lighting conditions deliver the best screen performance:
- relatively low ambient lighting - approximately 300 lux,
- suitable contrasts in your visual field,
- screen distant from windows and the light parallel with the direction of your vision, etc.

1)- CRT monitor (in operation since 20 mn to a minimum):
- First, and if not already on (it should be!), adjust your monitor's Contrast
setting as high as it will go (100%).
- Then, while paying attention to the window below, adjust your monitor's Brightness
setting until the black background window just starts to blend in with the black of the "screen adjustment".
- You might want to adjust your Brightness level up significantly before adjusting it down to see the image within the black window below. Use this window below for comparison:

2)- LCD monitor (in operation since 10 mn to a minimum):
- First, adjust Contrast
and Brightness
settings as low as it will go (0%).
- Then, while paying attention to the window below, adjust your monitor's Brightness
setting until to distinguish (slightly) between dark Grey and pure Black.
- Now, increase Contrast
for pure White and pure Black — while maintaining, of course, the slightly distinction between dark Grey and pure Black.
